"Cold Odyssey"[conjectural title] is the stage theme from Kirby: Triple Deluxe that plays in Old Odyssey - Stage 5. It was composed by Jun Ishikawa.[1]

Composition[edit]

Kirby in the cold depths of Old Odyssey.

"Cold Odyssey" is a dismal piece in A minor and 6/8. It features continuous arpeggiated accompaniment which starts from the very intro along with a slow trill. The melody, played by an oboe, is prolongued and melancholic. Despite its initial rising fourth, it almost exclusively descends until its end, where a short arpeggio ends on an accidental: A sharp, which creates sharp dissonance. It briefly leaps up to a flute's D sharp, a note that is yet again distant from the original key. A variant of the melody plays, with this version alternating between rising and descending intonations, forming a broken phrase. The dissonant arpeggio repeats once more together with the D sharp. Rather than having the melody return, a new, dimmer one plays around a D in crotchets; however, it follows the pattern of the previous phrases. The dissonant arpeggio turns into a D minor triad. Finally, the melody descends to an ornamented E, where it remains as the dominant to the original A minor. The music slows down, then loops.
