*chuckles* Cobgoblin, you're up! Now you go take care of Kirby!
— N.M.E. Sales Guy, in A Recipe for Disaster

Cobgoblin is a monster which appears in the episode A Recipe for Disaster from Kirby: Right Back at Ya!. It resembles a giant corn-on-the-cob with arms, feet, and eyes, and attacks by shooting its corn kernels at its opponents. Kirby defeats it easily using the Cook Copy Ability.

Its English name is a pun on "hobgoblin" and "cob", as in "corn cob".

Characteristics and powers[edit]

Cobgoblin is essentially a giant anthropomorphized corn-on-the-cob. It stands upright on two large black feet which looks similar to Kirby's. It possesses two arms with white gloves on its hands. Its eyes are located in the middle of the cob and are black and bean-shaped. Atop the cob is a brush of green leaves which resemble hair, but can also extend to grab things.

Cobgoblin can attack using its hands, but its main ability is to shoot corn kernels from its body which pop violently shortly after being launched. To inflict maximum pain on its target, Cobgoblin will grab its opponent and force their mouth open, then shoot a rapid volley of exploding corn kernels into the victim's mouth. Despite this rather painful attack, Cobgoblin is not particularly strong, and is easily defeated by stripping its corn kernels from its body and roasting them.

Role in A Recipe for Disaster[edit]

Cobgoblin runs into Kirby on Chef Shiitake's cooking show set.
I paid Night Mare Enterprises a heap a' money so they could send me a heap a' popcorn?!
— King Dedede, in A Recipe for Disaster
Main article: A Recipe for Disaster

Cobgoblin makes a brief appearance near the end of the episode A Recipe for Disaster, being called in by King Dedede using Night Mare Enterprises's express monster delivery service in order to stop Kirby from trying to eat him while addled by Gijira Extract overdose. Due to Kirby's impairment, he is not initially able to fight back against Cobgoblin, and is pummeled senseless. After sobering up, Tuff throws Kirby Chef Kawasaki's frying pan and he transforms into Cook Kirby. Using this ability, Kirby quickly shears the corn off of Cobgoblin and cooks it up, defeating the monster and making a giant mound of popcorn in the process.

Trivia[edit]

  • In the Japanese version, Cobgoblin repeats "Moro", the first part of its Japanese name Morokoshi. In most international versions, it is silent.
