I can stick to ceilings! I can also fly, but not very well.
— ChuChu (Kirby's Dream Land 3 manual)

ChuChu (sometimes spelled as Chuchu) is one of Kirby's Animal Friends, and a frequently reoccurring character in the Kirby series, though most of her appearances are only as cameos. Chuchu is a pink, blob-like octopus[1] wearing a red bow on her head. Unlike most other Animal Friends, who can carry Kirby around in some manner, ChuChu rides on Kirby's head while teamed up with him.

Game appearances

Kirby's Dream Land 3

ChuChu debuts in this game as one of Kirby's six Animal Friends in Kirby's Dream Land 3, first appearing in the second stage of Grass Land. When paired with Kirby, ChuChu is able to use her sticky, extendable "tentacles" to grab enemies in front of her and put them into Kirby's mouth, as well as sticking to and moving along ceilings. Furthermore, if the player presses the B button while the two are falling, she can perform a weak aerial jump, making it possible to slow down their fall if the button is pressed repeatedly.

Combinations

Like with the other Animal Friends, ChuChu can help Kirby perform unique team-up moves when using various Copy Abilities. These are outlined as follows:

Base Ability Appearance Description
Burning File:KDL3 FireChuchu.PNG Kirby produces a small constant heat source which causes ChuChu to distend like a hot air balloon when angled up, allowing the two to gain some lift. Kirby can use the fire cone itself to attack enemies.
Clean File:KDL3 BroomChuchu.PNG Kirby and ChuChu equip a large broomstick and are able to fly freely through the air for a moment, leaving a magical trail of dust behind that damages opponents.
Cutter File:KDL3 CutterChuchu.PNG Kirby swings ChuChu around himself like an axe blade, defeating enemies around him. He cannot throw ChuChu, however.
Ice File:KDL3 IceChuchu.PNG Kirby spits out snowballs which ChuChu grabs and tosses at enemies at various arcs. The snowballs freeze enemies on contact.
Needle File:KDL3 NeedleChuchu.PNG ChuChu shoots out five needles around herself which travel a short distance and hurt enemies on contact.
Parasol File:KDL3 ParasolChuchu.PNG Kirby and ChuChu get inside an up-side-down parasol and spin forward, defeating enemies on contact.
Spark File:KDL3 SparkChuchu.PNG ChuChu shoots a laser from her tentacle which flies straight forward and can defeat enemies, similar to the Laser ability. Unlike said ability, however, the laser will rebound off of flat walls if charged.
Stone File:KDL3 StoneChuchu.PNG Kirby transforms into a boulder and ChuChu proceeds to start swinging him around. The two can travel back and forth while doing this maneuver, damaging enemies on contact.

Cameo appearances

Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards

A stone carving representing ChuChu appears as one of the possible Stone-Cutter transformations. In this form, Kirby cannot walk, and can only move by hopping once in short bursts.

Kirby: Canvas Curse

ChuChu is one of the objects that Paint Roller can paint in the Paint Panic Sub-Game.

Kirby: Triple Deluxe

ChuChu appears as a Keychain in this title.

Kirby: Planet Robobot

ChuChu appears as a sticker in this title, which can be applied to the Robobot Armor.

Team Kirby Clash Deluxe & Super Kirby Clash

A set of equipment for Doctor Healmore can be purchased at Magolor's Shoppe called the 'Chuchu Cap' and 'Chuchu Flask'. Both of these items resemble ChuChu.

Kirby Star Allies

ChuChu makes a brief cameo appearance when Cleaning Kirby or Broom Hatter uses the attack Clean ChuChu. It is the same attack ChuChu uses when she has the Clean copy ability in Kirby's Dream Land 3. Other than that, her only appearance in the game is in the Celebration Picture "A Dream Above the Clouds".

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

ChuChu appears as a spirit in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and can be obtained in World of Light. She is a support spirit who causes the host fighter to start the match with a Super Leaf. This is a reference to her ability to float briefly in the air with continuous jumps while partnered with Kirby.
