Kirby and a retinue of all of his Dream Friends from Kirby Star Allies: all of them and more are considered to be characters in the Kirby franchise.

A character can be broadly defined as any entity within a work of art (typically fictional) whose presence drives forward the narrative of that art piece. The Kirby franchise is replete with distinct and memorable characters, with Kirby, his friends, and his enemies being the central driving mechanisms of the plots of the video game series, anime series, novel series, manga series, and more.

Characters in the Kirby video game series

For the purposes of clarity, a major character in the Kirby video game series is defined to have one or more of the following characteristics:

• Plays a significant role in the main story of a game
• Can be controlled independently by the player outside of Sub-Games or strictly multiplayer modes

Any entities which do not meet one of these requirements will not be included on this list, which includes most enemies, mid-bosses, or bosses. Examples of entities which only have a minor role in stories or minor amounts of dialogue are listed on the Minor characters page.

In addition, Kirby also goes on adventures to help those in need, including those from other worlds. Kirby's ability to inhale his enemies to gain their powers or spit them out as projectiles makes him very versatile as the series' main playable character. His Copy Ability and other powers throughout the series make Kirby a force to be reckoned with. Outside of player control, Kirby can be described as cheerful, friendly, naïve, and relatively carefree. He loves food of all kinds, and also enjoys singing (despite being a terrible singer), fishing, and sleeping.	Kirby is typically portrayed as a "silent protagonist", which means that he does not typically have proper dialogue, despite being very vocal in more recent games.

King Dedede is also capable of inhaling and hovering just like Kirby, but cannot copy abilities. In modern games, he is often playable, making use of his hammer and girth to fight his foes. King Dedede is defined by his pride, jealousy, and gluttony. He is not evil, but his personality flaws often put him at odds with Kirby, and make him a target for possession by the malevolent forces in Kirby's universe. His title of "King" extends only as far as his castle and retinue of loyal servants, mainly Waddle Dees. Despite these shortcomings, King Dedede is very strong and brave when he needs to be.	King Dedede's design often changes drastically to suit the identity and needs of the game he appears in.

Meta Knight leads a band of warriors named after him, and also commands the futuristic space-faring battleship Halberd. Meta Knight typically has good intentions, even if he presents himself as adversarial to Kirby. He can be described as an extreme disciplinarian, constantly working to improve himself and those under his influence, but this tendency is often paired with an inflated sense of pride and a short temper. He is among the most skilled and powerful fighters in the series, and when paired up with Kirby, the two can take on galactic-level threats.

After the fight, Kirby realizes that Dyna Blade was just trying to feed her chicks, and Kirby helps the chicks find a less disruptive food source and teaches them to fly, gaining the mother bird's friendship in the process. Later on, Dyna Blade helps Kirby board the Halberd in Revenge of Meta Knight, taking a hit for him in the process.

Innocent-seeming at first, Marx tricks Kirby into summoning the Galactic Nova and then steals Kirby's wish in order to gain immense power and try to take over Popstar. In his true form, Marx gains a pair of radiant wings and a scarier expression on his face, and can use all manner of horrifying magic, including splitting himself in half to reveal a black hole. Despite seemingly being destroyed at the end of Milky Way Wishes, Marx would reappear much later as one of Kirby's companions in Kirby Star Allies.

In Kirby's Star Stacker for Super Famicom, King Dedede fires at Mr. Star as he is flying by and causes him to shatter into pieces. Kirby helps Mr. Star retrieve all his pieces from various Dream Landers to return him to his full self.

When paired up with Kirby, he can use a number of different combination attacks using Kirby's Copy Ability, with his particular combinations focusing on strong ranged attacks.

When threatened, this cloud congeals into a separate realm (Hyper Zone in Kirby's Dream Land 3, and Dark Star in Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards) which contains the leader(s) of the cloud.
Zero Zero	Main villain		Kirby's Dream Land 3	Kirby: Planet Robobot, Kirby Star Allies, Kirby's Dream Buffet, Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe	A giant white ball with a single red eye that leads the Dark Matter cloud and can be found in the Hyper Zone. Zero attacks by throwing volleys of his own blood at Kirby and Gooey, and can also fire miniature versions of Dark Matter. Kirby battles Zero using the Love-Love Stick. When Zero is near defeat, his eye rips out of his body and tries desperately to collide with Kirby.
Gryll Gryll	Secret final opponent		Kirby's Star Stacker (Super Famicom)	Kirby: Planet Robobot, Kirby Star Allies, Kirby's Dream Buffet	A ball-shaped witch-like creature who rides a broomstick and travels through space with several small onion-shaped companions. In Kirby Star Stacker for Super Famicom, Gryll challenges Kirby to a star stacking competition if the main Story Mode is completed without a loss, serving as the secret true final opponent of the game.

She happens upon Kirby and he agrees to help her get the shards back. Ribbon is shown to be fairly timid under most circumstances, but will pair up with Kirby or Adeleine in order to help them battle enemies.

Her paintings can come to life, which becomes an issue when she is possessed by Dark Matter and forced to fight Kirby. Without her paintings, Adeleine is fairly frail, and not great at fighting. In Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, she joins Kirby after being freed from Dark Matter and helps the team by painting helpful items for them, or painting clues to puzzles. She is playable in the mini-games in Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, and is also playable in Kirby Star Allies, being paired up with Ribbon.	Adeleine is notably similar in appearance and demeanor to Ado, who appears in Kirby's Dream Land 3. It is unclear whether they are intended to be the same character or not.
0² 0²	Main villain		Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards	Kirby Star Allies	An angelic entity similar to Zero who resides in the heart of Dark Star. He is distinguished from Zero by his halo, wings, bandage, and tail, which turns into a green spiny appendage serving as his weak point when he is stunned. Kirby and Ribbon engage 0² using Ribbon's Crystal and defeat him in order to dispel the dark cloud and save Ripple Star.

Kirby fights and defeats Dark Meta Knight several times, the second time shattering him into glass. In Kirby: Triple Deluxe, Dark Meta Knight serves as the surprise final boss of Dededetour!. In Kirby Star Allies, Dark Meta Knight is one of Kirby's companions, having apparently mended his ways.

Kirby and his clones fight Dark Mind in the mirror after defeating Dark Meta Knight, and with the help of the Master sword and Shadow Kirby, they are successful in destroying him and bringing peace back to the Mirror World.

In Kirby: Squeak Squad, Daroach is the main source of trouble in Dream Land, stealing many valuable things, including a treasure chest containing an ancient evil and Kirby's Strawberry Shortcake. When he opens the chest containing Dark Nebula, he is consumed and possessed by it, and Kirby has to battle Daroach a second time to free him from the evil influence. Grateful to Kirby for saving him, Daroach returns Kirby's cake and becomes an ally to him going forward. In Kirby Star Allies, Daroach appears as one of Kirby's companions, becoming playable for the first time. Here, he has access to many of his moves as a boss from Kirby: Squeak Squad, and can also call on his Squeaks for assistance.

It is typically up to Kirby or Meta Knight to fight this angelic swordsman and seal him back away. Up until Super Kirby Clash, Galacta Knight would appear exclusively in Extra Modes. In this game, however, he is known as "Aeon Hero" and serves as the true final boss of the game, taking on three different forms for various battles.

The Kirbys eventually get themselves together and infiltrate Necro Nebula, banish Necrodeus to the abyss, and then use his staff to return themselves back to one Kirby.

It is then revealed that Magolor orchestrated all of this so he could steal Landia's Master Crown and use it to gain untold magical power and conquer the universe. With Landia's help, Kirby and friends follow Magolor into the rift he made and defeat him, freeing him from the crown's influence. Magolor is quite clever and industrious, but he is also rather mischievous and somewhat dishonest. In Kirby Star Allies, he appears as one of Kirby's companions. He is shown constructing and operating several things throughout the Kirby series, including a Gem Apple cart in Team Kirby Clash Deluxe and Super Kirby Clash.

Taranza later has a change of heart and helps King Dedede and Kirby defeat Queen Sectonia. Taranza would later become playable in Kirby Star Allies, where he is one of Kirby's companions. He also appears as a leading villain in Team Kirby Clash Deluxe, and has a more minor role in Super Kirby Clash.

She wields two staves and two swords into battle, and has access to a large array of magical abilities. In Kirby: Triple Deluxe, Kirby battles and defeats Queen Sectonia after dealing with Taranza. In a last-ditch effort to try and defeat Kirby, Queen Sectonia merges with the Dreamstalk to become a hybrid monstrosity set on consuming all life on the planet. With the help of Taranza, King Dedede, and the People of the Sky, Kirby destroys Flowered Sectonia and restores peace to the world.

Elline's Secret Diary reveals a fair amount about her personality, including her general childishness, friendship with Claycia, and imaginative and playful nature.

After Star Dream goes haywire, Susie regrets her actions and turns to Kirby for help destroying the computer, turning to his side. Susie later appears as one of Kirby's companions in Kirby Star Allies.

When Kirby defeats him in the Access Ark, Haltmann tries to use Star Dream to destroy Kirby, but Susie sabotages him to try and get the computer. This rash action causes the computer to haywire and meld Haltmann's mind into its system, taking control of him and eventually erasing his personality. Haltmann is destroyed upon Star Dream's defeat.
Star Dream Star Dream	Main villain		Kirby: Planet Robobot	Kirby Star Allies	An ancient computer which was repurposed by the Haltmann Works Company to power their operations. After Susie tries to hijack the computer from President Haltmann, Star Dream takes control of Haltmann's mind and then goes haywire, declaring its intention to end the universe. Kirby and Meta Knight have to team up using the Robobot Armor and the Halberd to defeat the computer in outer space, as it merges with the Access Ark to reveal itself as an entity similar to Galactic Nova. After a lengthy struggle, Kirby and Meta Knight eventually succeed in destroying Star Dream and undoing its damage to Popstar.

In Kirby Star Allies, he attempts to revive his dark god Void Termina from the Jamba Heart by breaking the seal on it, but accidentally shatters the heart in the process. By the time Kirby and his friends arrive at the altar, Hyness finds himself with an incomplete heart, and has to interrupt his ritual to try and fend off the Star Allies, but fails. In desperation, he sacrifices himself and the mage-sisters to the heart to revive Void Termina, and Kirby later retrieves them from Void Termina's innards. In Heroes in Another Dimension, after defeating Hyness in his Corrupt form, Kirby and friends are able to use a lingering remnant of their Friend Heart power to restore Hyness to normal and cause him to see the light.
Void Termina Void Termina	Main villain		Kirby Star Allies	Kirby's Dream Buffet	Known as the Destroyer of Worlds, Void Termina is a being conjured from chaos who resembles a giant runic humanoid monster on the outside, and possesses a soul with a round shape and face similar to Kirby's, but also a shape similar to Dark Matter and Zero. In Kirby Star Allies, Void Termina spends most of his time sealed inside the Jamba Heart, and his pieces are scattered as Dark Hearts which cause anyone they come into contact with to give in to their darker natures and be powered up. When Void Termina is eventually reassembled, Kirby and friends have to do battle with him using the Star Allies Sparkler, eventually defeating his soul and restoring peace to the universe.
Morpho Knight Morpho Knight	Secondary villain		Kirby Star Allies, Kirby and the Forgotten Land	Super Kirby Clash, Kirby's Dream Buffet, Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe	A spectral sword-wielding warrior who emerges whenever the ethereal Butterfly absorbs an entity of great power. Morpho Knight seems to only be driven by an urge to fight and subsume other entities, and uses powerful fiery magic along with the ability to confuse its opponents with its cries. Much like Galacta Knight, Morpho Knight typically appears as a surprise boss at the end of extra modes.
Parallel Nightmare Parallel Nightmare	Secondary villain		Super Kirby Clash	Kirby's Dream Buffet	A version of Nightmare from a different dimension who terrorizes the Dream Kingdom by summoning all manner of monsters that Team Kirby has to deal with. Team Kirby battles Parallel Nightmare numerous times, eventually cornering him in the Dreamscape. Here, Parallel Nightmare summons the Aeon Hero to try and stop Team Kirby, but Aeon Hero turns on Parallel Nightmare immediately and slays him.
Elfilin Elfilin	Supporting character		Kirby and the Forgotten Land	Kirby's Dream Buffet, Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe	A flying blue rodent-like creature who accompanies Kirby on his quest to save the Waddle Dees after Kirby frees him from one of the Beast Pack's cages. Elfilin gives Kirby advice during his journey, and is later captured once again, this time by King Dedede. Later on, it is revealed that Elfilin was the missing half of an invading alien life form, and when Elfilin is re-absorbed, Kirby has to battle the creature to free Elfilin and then destroy it for good.
Clawroline Clawroline	Secondary antagonist and supporting character		Kirby and the Forgotten Land	Kirby's Dream Buffet, Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe	A humanoid leopard who serves as part of the Executive Council for the Beast Pack, and inspires the Pack with her grace and skill. She later turns into an ally when she saves Elfilin off-camera during the ending cutscene and then asks Kirby and Elfilin to help her save Leon from Forgo Dreams. She is also known as Carol.
Leongar Leongar	Secondary antagonist		Kirby and the Forgotten Land	Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe	A giant bipedal lion-man who serves as the leader of the Beast Pack. Several years prior to the main story, he encountered specimen ID-F86 and was corrupted by it, leading his pack to do its bidding and learning to speak through its influence. After Kirby defeats him in Lab Discovera, his body and soul is subsumed into Fecto Forgo, and Kirby needs to wrestle both away from it in Forgo Dreams to recover the Beast Pack's leader. He is also known as Leon.
Fecto Forgo Fecto Forgo	Main villain		Kirby and the Forgotten Land		A fractured cosmic life-form which was captured and kept as a test subject known as specimen ID-F86 by the new world civilization after it had attempted to invade their world. Using its superb psychic power, it took control of Leongar and King Dedede and used them to try and gather labor and power to itself, as well as capture and recover its missing half: Elfilin. Near the end of the game, it succeeds at this task after a few setbacks, becoming its whole self again as Fecto Elfilis, but is shortly thereafter bested by Kirby and Elfilin freed. Later, Kirby and Elfilin venture into Forgo Dreams to prevent the soul of ID-F86 from possessing Leon's body, and the creature is absorbed into Morpho Knight, who is later defeated. However, Soul Forgo manages to take a bit of the ethereal butterfly's power, escaping through a rift in the Colosseum and turning into Chaos Elfilis. After this form is also defeated by Kirby, the last bit of life willingly returns to Elfilin to finally become one.

Main Protagonists

	Tiff	Kirby's closest friend and supervisor. Tiff is a young and intelligent girl who resides with her family in Castle Dedede. She helps Kirby by working to foil King Dedede's plans and calls the Warp Star for Kirby when he is in trouble.
	Tuff	Tiff's little brother. He is immature and headstrong, but very brave. He assists Tiff and Kirby whenever he can, but his foolhardiness sometimes causes trouble for them.
	Meta Knight	A veteran Star Warrior who feigns to serve King Dedede in order to protect and guide Kirby as he learns to be a hero. He has two apprentices named Sword Knight and Blade Knight and can also be seen assisting and mentoring Tiff and Tuff.

	Escargoon	King Dedede's right-hand man and personal assistant. Escargoon often behaves cruelly toward King Dedede's enemies, but he is not quite as vain and selfish as the King, and can sometimes be seen cooperating with them instead.
	N.M.E. Sales Guy	The front man of Night Mare Enterprises who sells N.M.E.'s questionable products to gullible buyers such as King Dedede. His professional demeanor masks a cruel and exploitative personality.
	eNeMeE	The main villain who runs Night Mare Enterprises. He is usually only seen in the shadows, and is responsible for creating many of the monsters he sells.

	Buttercup	Kirby Comes to Cappy Town	The wife of Chief Bookem. Despite having little dialogue, she is often portrayed as kind and sincere.
	Captain Waddle Doo	Un-Reality TV	Commander of the Waddle Dees in Castle Dedede.
	Chef Kawasaki	A Blockbuster Battle	A notoriously unskilled chef who runs the only restaurant in Cappy Town.
	Chef Nagoya	A Chow Challenge	A wandering chef who once attended culinary school with Chef Kawasaki. He is much more skilled than Kawasaki is, but lacks his own restaurant.
	Chef Shiitake	A Recipe for Disaster	Number one food critic and Kawasaki's teacher. A false version of him appears in The Big Taste Test.

	Rowlin	A Novel Approach	A famous author who wrote the best-selling book "Pappy Pottey and the Fool's Stone". She is impersonated by a monster in A Novel Approach.
	Samo	A Blockbuster Battle (Japanese version)	The bartender of Cappy Town. He gathers gossip from his customers and delivers it to Mabel to help with her fortune telling.
	Sir Ebrum	Kirby Comes to Cappy Town	King Dedede's cabinet minister, the father of Tiff and Tuff and husband of Lady Like. He is a very timid and nervous man.
	Sir Gallant	One Crazy Knight	A wandering quixotic knight who believes himself to be a comic book hero.
	Sirica	Crusade for the Blade	A young alien warrior who once battled Meta Knight for the Galaxia over a misunderstanding. She is a potent fighter who wields a weapon stolen from N.M.E.
	Spikehead	A Blockbuster Battle	One of the three main Cappy children. He loves to play games and can be very impatient.
	Sword Knight	Kirby Comes to Cappy Town	One of Meta Knight's apprentices, the other being Blade Knight. The two were once roadside bandits until they met Meta Knight, who saved their lives from WolfWrath. Since then, they have become fiercely loyal to Meta Knight and are often seen by his side.
	Tokkori	Kirby Comes to Cappy Town	A cantankerous little talking bird who lives with Kirby in his house. He often rubs other characters the wrong way, but is not bad at heart.
	Tuggle	A Dark & Stormy Knight	A cranky Cappy who runs the grocery store.
	Waddle Dees	Kirby Comes to Cappy Town	The tireless servants of Castle Dedede, who number in the thousands. They are usually silent, and obey King Dedede and his subordinates in exchange for living in the castle.
	Whales	A Whale of a Tale	A giant sperm whale and calf who visit Dream Land and are harassed by King Dedede.
	Whispy Woods	Beware: Whispy Woods!	A sentient tree who resides over Whispy Woods Forest. King Dedede often tries to chop him down in order to destroy the forest and build a golf course.
	Yamikage	Ninja Binge	A treacherous ninja warrior who used to be a Star Warrior. He is prideful and cruel.

There are a variety of characters featured in the Kirby novel series. Most of said characters originate from the overall game series, fleshed-out appropriately within literature. There are several unique characters as well, exclusive to the novels. The key characters of the novels are as follows:

Protagonists

Character	Description
Kirby	A pink puffball with the ability to wield Copy Abilities by inhaling certain creatures. He is very naïve and oftentimes becomes distracted by the thought of food, sometimes making it his priority even in dire situations. However, he will toughen up and stand up for his friends when necessary.
King Dedede	The self-proclaimed short tempered king of Dream Land. He is selfish and often treats his servant Waddle Dee harshly when upset. He also sees Kirby as his rival and does not take kindly to his presence. Deep down, he genuinely cares for the puffball, but rarely openly admits it.
Meta Knight	A mysterious caped swordsman who wears a mask at all times. He is respectful and skilled with his blade, but has a short temper which can easily be set off if he is humiliated in any way. Although his true motives are usually unknown, he will step up to help his friends when they need him.
Waddle Dee	A timid Waddle Dee prone to worry who is deeply loyal to King Dedede as his servant, despite the faulty treatment he receives in return. He is best friends with Kirby despite the rivalry between Dedede and the puffball. He often must switch between sides unknowingly to keep things from spiraling out of control. He is willing to help his friends when possible, and quick to finish a requested task. Starting with Kirby's Decisive Battle! Battle Royale!!, he gains a blue bandana, making him more analogous to Bandana Waddle Dee.
