Challenge Mode is a bonus mode in [[Kirby and the Rainbow Curse|Template:KatRC KatRP]] which features a set of 48 mini-stages for Kirby to complete. The menu for this mode is available from the start of the game, but each stage needs to be unlocked individually, with different criteria for each one. Like with the main game, these challenges can be tackled with Kirby alone, or with up to three Waddle Dee helpers controlled by additional players.

Due to the differing unlock criteria for each Challenge Mode stage, these stages are not intended to be played in the order they are numbered (nor is it actually possible to do so). Completing every stage in Challenge Mode is required to unlock the Drawcia Figurine and hence, 100% completion of Template:KatRC KatRP.

Basic gameplay

The goal of Challenge Mode is to collect Treasure Chests inside rooms with predetermined sets of obstacles and conditions within a 15 second time limit for each room. These rooms are similar to the timed challenge rooms encountered in the main stages of the game. Controls for Kirby and the Waddle Dees are the same as they are in the main game. When progressing between rooms, Kirby and the Waddle Dees are fully healed and the Point Star count is reset to 0. It should be noted that the chests collected in these stages do not actually contain any items.

Challenge Mode is divided into 48 distinct stages. Of these, 41 are One-Minute Challenges and the remaining 7 are Survival Challenges. Each type of challenge can be summarized as follows:

One-Minute Challenges

One-Minute Challenges are sets of four rooms played in sequence. If Kirby fails to collect the treasure chest in a room, he will automatically be taken to the next one. The medal received for these stages is based on how many chests were collected, as follows:

• 0 - No medal
• 1 or 2 - Bronze medal
• 3 - Silver medal
• 4 - Gold medal

Survival Challenges

Survival Challenges are sets of twelve rooms played in sequence. If Kirby fails to collect a treasure chest in time, he is defeated and has to start the whole challenge over again. The medal received for these stages is based on how many chests were collected, as follows:

• 0-5 - No medal
• 6-8 - Bronze medal
• 9-11 - Silver medal
• 12 - Gold medal

Challenge 48	Collect 68 Gold Medals	Survival Challenge	The Kirby Tank, Kirby Submarine, and Kirby Rocket are seen in this challenge. At the end, Whispy Woods, The Claykken, and Hooplagoon also make an appearance. 68 Gold Medals is equal to all 21 regular stages in the Story Mode in addition to all 47 other Challenge Mode stages, so essentially, this stage is only unlocked after getting every other Gold Medal in the game.
