Butter Building is the third level of Kirby's Adventure and its remake, Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land. It is a tower that extends up into the sky. It has seven primary stages, with the last containing the dual boss, Mr. Shine & Mr. Bright. This is the first level which contains Big Switches.

Intro cut-scene

Before entering the hub for the first time, a brief cut-scene plays adorned in a blue frame with the level's name overhead in the scene. In the skit, Kirby can be seen walking along a platform aside from the Butter Building tower when a Poppy Bros Sr. runs in and knocks Kirby aside, causing him to fall and grab the ledge to catch himself. While trying to get back up, the Poppy Bros Sr. returns and tosses a bomb high into the air before disappearing. Once Kirby gets back onto the platform, the bomb falls on his head, leaving the poor puffball only enough time to notice it before it explodes on him. From there, the scene ends.

Overview

Butter Building is defined by its verticality. Each stage has Kirby traversing upward through room after room, moving along both the inside and outside of the tower as he ascends. Along the way, he has to contend with carefully organized enemy formations and hazards, along with many flying enemies along the exterior sections. Spikes and voids are common in this level. There are also many more Mid-Boss encounters than before, with Stage 2 being the first in the game to have more than one. Stage 6 features the first dark area in the game, where the little-used Light ability has a chance to shine.

Butter Building is the first full-length level in the game, with seven total stages. For the most part, however, these stages are short, consisting of only a few rooms.

Hub

True to the nature of the tower itself, the hub opens up vertically, with each stage door appearing above the previous one. Pressing the Big Switch in Stage 1 unlocks the Arena, where Grand Wheelie can be fought. Clearing Stage 3 grants access to the Museum, which holds the Hi-Jump ability. Clearing Stage 4 grants access to the sub-game Quick Draw. Lastly, pressing the Big Switch in Stage 6 unlocks the second sub-game (Egg Catcher in Adventure and Kirby's Air Grind in Nightmare in Dream Land).

The hub opens up into a tall and thin area representing the tower in its entirety. Naturally, the door to the boss encounter can be found at the very top.

Stages

Each stage is unlocked in succession after clearing the previous one. Clearing Stage 7 is necessary to move on to Grape Garden. For more information about a particular stage, click on the link to the stage's page in the table.
