— Kirby Fighters 2 loading screen description

Buddy Star Blaster (referred to as the Buddy Shooting Star in the reveal trailer) is a special item exclusive to Team Battles, appearing in Kirby Fighters 2, which allows a team of Kirbys and/or Buddies to fire bullets into the background then blast a powerful laser beam at the opposing team (provided that the two parts are assembled together). Its function is mostly similar to the Team Cannon from Kirby Fighters Deluxe.

The Buddy Star Blaster is composed of two half-star pieces which are blue and red with wing-like protrusions at the bottom and a little yellow star in the center. Each half of the Buddy Star Blaster has a star emblem with two small triangles, which are lit up by the riders as they begin to charge up the laser blast.

Use[edit]

Wrestler and Archer Kirby in the "Aim and Shoot" portion of using the Buddy Star Blaster

Occasionally during a Team Battle, two pieces of the Buddy Star Blaster, blue and red, will appear on different parts of the stage. A player can grab either of the pieces and carry it around, which makes it shoot out two small stars from both sides that deal small knockback and damage to other players. The player must carry the piece they're holding to their teammate that is also carrying the other piece to form the Buddy Star Blaster. A player from one team cannot assemble the Buddy Star Blaster with a member from the opposing team.

If the Buddy Star Blaster is assembled, all players on the team that assembled it fly into the foreground. In a quick-time event, a message displays on the screen, "Aim and Shoot!" The players must aim with the Control Stick (or directional buttons) and shoot star-shaped bullets using the B button at the opposing team. If the opposing team members are shot, they fly into the air. There is a time limit for this quick-time event, denoted by the flashing of the text, so at least one player from the opposing team must be shot, or else the item will disappear and the players will fall back into the stage.

Once at least one player from the opposing team has been shot, a cutscene will play, in which the team players who have assembled the Buddy Star Blaster ride it into the sky and charge it to fire a large, powerful laser blast at their opponent(s). This will deal a huge amount of damage to the opponent(s) hit by the beam.

When in a Random Match online or in Story Mode, the battle timer will temporarily pause while the Buddy Star Blaster is active.

Role in Story Mode: The Destined Rivals[edit]

Kirby and King Dedede prepare to finish off the partners who shook the heavens at the end of Story Mode: The Destined Rivals.

In Story Mode: The Destined Rivals's Final Chapter, after Kirby and his buddy defeat Waning Crescent Masked Dedede & Waxing Crescent Masked Meta Knight, a shaft of light shines on the Stage of the Partners, with the two pieces of the Buddy Star Blaster descending from above. Kirby and his buddy assemble the Buddy Star Blaster and use it to shatter the Masks of Dark Bonds off King Dedede and Meta Knight, while also sending them packing from the laser blast.

The Buddy Star Blaster sequence completely skips the "aim-and-shoot" quick-time event, as the rivals are already defeated. Notably, it also features a unique, faster arrangement of its theme in D Minor using rock guitars.

Other appearances[edit]

Trivia[edit]

  • Due to its rarity as an item and enabling the obtainer to use a very powerful attack, the Buddy Star Blaster is similar to the Smash Ball from the Super Smash Bros. series.
