Broom Hatter (alternatively spelt Broomhatter) is a recurring enemy in the Kirby series. Since her debut in Kirby's Dream Land, she has continued to make constant appearances throughout most of the main series and several spin-offs. Broom Hatter typically does not provide any Copy Ability, but in Kirby's Dream Land 3 and Kirby Star Allies, she gives Kirby the Cleaning ability.

Appearance
Characteristics
Broom Hatter's basic appearance is that of a short, yellow creature with no visible face, wearing a black, pointed hat (similar to that of a stereotypical witch) and brown shoes. She always carries a broom with her, which she usually uses for sweeping the ground. She is a relatively harmless and basic foe, whose behavior does not change much between games.

She always carries a broom, which she usually uses for sweeping the ground. She is a relatively harmless and basic foe, whose behavior does not change much between games. She is often seen sweeping on the letter "L" in HAL Rooms.

Game Appearances
Broom Hatter is described as an apprentice witch by her trophy in Super Smash Bros. For Wii U. She is frequently referred to with feminine pronouns, which can also be seen in that trophy description, along with blurbs from Play Nintendo. However, the Guest Star description for Kirby Star Allies instead uses masculine pronouns, though the Play Nintendo website for said game still refers to Broom Hatter as female. For the purposes of this page, Broom Hatter is assumed to be female outside of specific references to "his" role in Kirby Star Allies the game.

In this game, Broom Hatters behave noticeably differently than in most of their later appearances. They walk left and right rather quickly while sweeping the ground with their brooms and occasionally jump. Kirby can defeat them using any of his standard attacks. Broom Hatters are not replaced by any other enemy in the Extra Game.

In the Kirby novel series, Broom Hatter appears in Kirby and the Big Panic in Gloomy Woods! and in Kirby: Uproar at the Kirby Café?!. Their Dream Kingdom equivalent also appears in Kirby Clash Team Unite!.

|}
In Kirby and the Big Panic in Gloomy Woods!, Broom Hatter lives with their friend Ringle in an ancient ruined building in Gloomy Woods. After "the master" of the place had disappeared, Broom Hatter and Ringle's past relatives obligated them to guard a sacred crystal kept in the ruins. Broom Hatter has the additional job of keeping the place clean. During the events of the book, Kirby enters the ruins and inhales Ringle to get the Bell ability. Broom Hatter then steps in to see what happened. They realize what happened to Ringle, and rushes at Kirby. Broom Hatter stops when Meta Knight tells them that Ringle is unharmed. Broom Hatter tells the group about their job at the ruins, but quickly goes quiet to avoid mentioning the Stardust Crystal. When Meta Knight reminds them about Ringle, they then begin to explain everything. They guide Kirby and the others into the ruins, telling them about how valuable the treasure is, and that rumors of the master still being there have scared thieves away from the ruins. Broom Hatter adds that their family has always been in charge of cleaning, so they would not be able to fight back against bandits. After Kirby releases Ringle, the group then finds that the treasure had been stolen by the Woodkeeper. Kirby sets out with Meta Knight and King Dedede to stop him. They succeed in the end, and the crystal is safely returned to Broom Hatter and Ringle.

In Kirby Clash Team Unite!, the Dream Kingdom equivalent of the normal Broom Hatter lives in Castle Village. They first appear in Chapter 7, when they are attacked by Miasmoros and barely makes it out alive, though heavily damaged. While Doctor Kirby heals their wounds, they inform the residents of Castle Village about their encounter, which causes them to doubt if the problem with monsters is really gone. Broom Hatter is not mentioned again in the story, though they are among the villagers who give some of their Gem Apples to Team Kirby in preparation for the team's return trip to the Empyrean.

Trivia
Broom Hatter also makes a minor appearance in Kirby: Uproar at the Kirby Café?!. He joins the Dedede Café staff as a cleaner and a dishwasher.
*The pause caption for Broom Hatter in Kirby Star Allies refers to 'him' rather than 'her', as was standard up to this point. Whether or not this was a mistake is unclear. They are males in this game.

— Description of Broom Hatter from the Kirby: Triple Deluxe website

Broom Hatter (alternatively spelt Broomhatter[1]) is a recurring enemy in the Kirby series.

Characteristics[edit]

Broom Hatter's basic appearance is that of a short, yellow creature with no visible face, wearing a black, pointed hat (similar to that of a stereotypical witch) and brown shoes. She always carries a broom, which she usually uses for sweeping the ground. She is a relatively harmless and basic foe, whose behavior does not change much between games. She is often seen sweeping on the letter "L" in HAL Rooms.

Broom Hatter is described as an apprentice witch by her trophy in Super Smash Bros. For Wii U. She is frequently referred to with feminine pronouns, which can also be seen in that trophy description, along with blurbs from Play Nintendo. However, the Guest Star description for Kirby Star Allies instead uses masculine pronouns, though the Play Nintendo website for said game still refers to Broom Hatter as female.[2] For the purposes of this page, Broom Hatter is assumed to be female outside of specific references to "his" role in Kirby Star Allies the game.

Kirby's Dream Land[edit]

KDL Broom Hatter sprite.png In Kirby's Dream Land, Broom Hatter behaves noticeably different from most of her later appearances. She walks left and right rather quickly while sweeping the ground with her broom and occasionally jumps. Kirby can defeat her using any of his standard attacks. Broom Hatter is not replaced by any other enemy in the Extra Game.

Kirby's Adventure / Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land[edit]

KA Broom Hatter sprite.png KNiDL Broom Hatter sprite.png Broom Hatter appears in Kirby's Adventure and its remake as a standard enemy who provides no Copy Ability. Broom Hatter typically sweeps back and forth along the ground, but may also be found standing completely still, doing nothing in particular.

In the Kirby novel series[edit]

In the Kirby novel series, Broom Hatter appears in Kirby and the Big Panic in Gloomy Woods! and in Kirby: Uproar at the Kirby Café?!. Their Dream Kingdom equivalent also appears in Kirby Clash Team Unite!.

Broom Hatter also makes a minor appearance in Kirby: Uproar at the Kirby Café?!. He joins the Dedede Café staff as a cleaner and a dishwasher.
