Missing various details of its use as a leitmotif

"Bright Spinning Planet" is a musical theme composed by Hirokazu Ando for Kirby: Planet Robobot's title screen. It also bears a major-key counterpart, titled "Spinning Planet Complete", that plays in late-game areas.

Composition[edit]

The bright, spinning planet shown on the title screen.

"Bright Spinning Planet" opens on a curious, plucky synth playing three sets of rising notes followed by a descent in a similar manner. Percussion and backing synths slowly join in as the theme gets more comfortable, and it takes on a wary and ominous tone that will eventually be realized fully in "Vagrant Counting Song of Retrospection". The melody gives way to "Haltmann Works Co. HQ", occasionally interrupted by the opening motif (sometimes inverted). As a title screen piece, the music is very short and loops back to the original motif at the moment the backing synths join in.

Game appearances[edit]

Kirby: Planet Robobot[edit]

In Kirby: Planet Robobot, "Bright Spinning Planet" is not only the title screen theme, but its introductory segment holds a motif used in various locations throughout the game. The same motif appears in "Spinning Planet Complete", which plays in the lobby of The True Arena early on, as well as in the sticker collection screen when all 200 are collected. They are found as tracks 001 and 145 respectively in the Jukebox.

As an individual motif, "Bright Spinning Planet" appears in other themes, such as "Patched Plains", "Vagrant Counting Song of Retrospection", and child theme "Vagrant Keepsake of Oblivion".

"Bright Spinning Planet" in Kirby: Planet Robobot
Theme Sample Notes
"Patched Plains" Calm, content inclusion at the end of the map theme for Patched Plains.
"Vagrant Counting Song of Retrospection" Plays various times throughout the theme at several tempos.
"Soul 0 System" Plays various times throughout the theme at several tempos.
"Memories (I'll Never Forget You)" Plays near the end of the theme in a major-key chiptune variation.

Other appearances[edit]

Starting with Team Kirby Clash Deluxe, "Bright Spinning Planet" represents its game of origin in the Past Adventures menu.

Trivia[edit]

  • "Bright Spinning Planet" opens with a motif that sounds almost identical to that of "Sky Tower" from Kirby's Return to Dream Land. Unlike another similar situation in the same game (between "Spinning Jungle" and "VS. Star Dream"), this was never acknowledged, even in Planet Robobot's remix of "Sky Tower", so this is likely another coincidence.
