Bonkers is a simian-like mid-boss, wielding an enormous hammer which resembles King Dedede's.
In order to attack, Bonkers may charge at Kirby, jump in the air and swing his hammer, or throw Coconuts at Kirby to deal damage. These Coconuts may be engulfed then shot out to harm Bonkers. Once defeated, he lays on the ground for a bit, like all midbosses, when Kirby can inhale him and get Hammer ability. Since Bonkers is the only enemy with a hammer, he is the helper for the hammer ability. He appears in every game with the hammer ability.
Game Appearances
Kirby's Adventure/ Nightmare in Dream Land
Kirby's Adventure marked the first appearance of Bonkers, and its remake also includes him. In the original, he is seen wearing either orange or blue, and he is only seen wearing purple in the remake.
Kirby Super Star / Kirby Super Star Ultra
In [[Kirby Super Star|Template:KSS KFP]] and Kirby Super Star Ultra, Bonkers is a common mid-boss that appears in Dyna Blade, The Great Cave Offensive, Milky Way Wishes, the Arena, Helper to Hero, and Meta Knightmare Ultra. He is also the helper for the hammer ability.
Kirby & the Amazing Mirror & Kirby: Squeak Squad
In both of these games, Bonkers appears as a Mid-Boss, looking and behaving essentially in the same way he did in Nightmare in Dream Land. He is often the only source of the Hammer ability in these games.
Kirby's Return to Dream Land
Bonkers reappears again as a mid-boss in [[Kirby's Return to Dream Land|Template:KRDL KAW]], appearing in various stages, and offering the Hammer ability. There is a super version of Bonkers called Super Bonkers that yields the Grand Hammer Super Ability.
Kirby: Triple Deluxe
Bonkers returns again for Kirby: Triple Deluxe as a Mid-Boss that provides the Hammer ability. In addition to his normal move-set, he may also perform a hammer spin that takes him in and out of the foreground.
Team Kirby Clash Deluxe
“ | He's here to destroy things with his hammer--and he's not monkeying around! | ” | — flavor text from Team Kirby Clash Deluxe |
Bonkers is encountered three times in this spin-off title. He's been made even larger, and his spinning moves made more elaborate to pose a challenge to four Kirby heroes working in unison.
Kirby: Star Allies
“ | “Ook ook! I love bananas!” He’s always looking for bananas! Even when he loses sight of this goal, this giant gourmand smashes anything in his way, wherever he likes! | ” | — Pause screen caption for Bonkers, Kirby Star Allies |
Bonkers returns in this title, serving as a Mid-Boss as usual. Once defeated, he can be recruited as a Friend by tossing a heart at him before he explodes. As a Friend, Bonkers can use all the same moves as Hammer Kirby, and can also infuse his hammer with various elements.
