- This article is about the Copy Ability. For the item, see Bomb (object).
Bomb is a recurring Copy Ability that is characterized by the ability to use explosives in various ways once obtained. Bomb Kirby may throw, bowl, and drop explosive bombs for the purpose of defeating enemies, including aerial enemies. Bomb Kirby's only change in appearance is typically a blue hat, similar to Sword's hat. In Kirby's Return to Dream Land and onward, however, the hat resembles a fireworks cone. Bomb may be obtained by swallowing bomb-based enemies or touching a Bomb Copy Essence.
Game appearances
Kirby Super Star and Kirby Super Star Ultra
In Kirby Super Star and its remake Kirby Super Star Ultra, Bombs reappear with Kirby gaining typical bomb abilities, gained by swallowing a Poppy Bros. Jr. with a Bomb. Kirby may also summon Poppy Bros. Jr. as a helper by sacrificing his ability.

Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards
The Bomb ability makes its 3-D debut in Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards. Many different enemies provide this ability, including Poppy Bros. Jr., Skud, Rockn, and Blowfish. The Bomb ability can also be combined with itself and with other abilities to make potent explosive Power Combos.
Kirby Air Ride
“ | This ability allows you to hurl bombs with just a press of A. The distance that you throw the bombs depends on how long you hold the button down. | ” | — Kirby Air Ride North American instruction booklet, page 40 |
This ability appears in Kirby Air Ride. If Kirby inhales a bomb-inducing enemy, or if he touches a Copy Ability Panel, he receives this ability. By pressing A, he can throw the bomb, creating an explosion that gradually increases diameter. If the A button is pressed longer, the meter fills up more, allowing Kirby to throw farther. An arrow indicates where the bomb is going to land. Kirby can throw only one bomb if he gets this ability.
Interestingly, the instruction booklet seems to give the impression that the ability can be used more than once before being used up. This would be more in-line with Bomb's appearances elsewhere in the series.

Kirby & The Amazing Mirror
In Kirby & The Amazing Mirror, the Bomb ability is one of the many obtainable abilities in the game. Unlike the precedents, however, Kirby gains the Bomb ability by inhaling Foleys or Pranks that throw bombs at Kirby.

Kirby: Squeak Squad
In Template:KSqS KMoA, Bomb Kirby has largely the same move-set as in Kirby & The Amazing Mirror. However, he can also obtain Thunder Bombs or Ice Bombs by mixing either the Spark ability with the Bomb ability or the Ice ability with the Bomb ability after obtaining an Ability Scroll. When used, the Thunder Bomb's explosion causes enemies near it to be electrified. It can also be used to electrocute metal in certain levels. When used, the Ice Bomb's explosion freezes enemies solid and can also be used to harden lava. There is no Fire Bomb combination like there is with Fire and Sword.
Kirby's Return to Dream Land
In Template:KRtDL KAW, the Bomb ability reappears with a similar move-set, but aesthetic differences. Instead of wearing a floppy blue cap, Kirby wears a party popper-styled hat. In addition, the bombs now include star patterns on them, and feature a notable difference in functionality: in all previous games, the bombs had a flame effect, meaning they were capable of lighting fuses and breaking ice blocks. They are no longer capable of doing so in modern titles starting with this game, unless equipped with the Sizzle Power Effect.

Kirby: Triple Deluxe
Bomb returns as an ability in this installment, with the same move-set as it had in Template:KRtDL KAW. However, it takes noticeably longer to deploy bombs in this game than it did in its previous appearance. This was likely done to balance the ability for the Kirby Fighters Sub-Game, which Bomb also appears in.
Kirby Fighters Deluxe
Bomb appears as one of the selectable Copy Abilities in this game. Its move-set is largely the same as it was in Kirby: Triple Deluxe. Its unlockable Rare Outfit has a similar design to the default hat, with an orange-and-purple diamond motif, a heart-shaped gem in its center, and a flashy pom pom on top. The bombs themselves are also adorned with hearts; according to a Miiverse post by designer Kenichiro Kita, this variant was designed to appeal to girls, as he thought the standard Bomb design appealed mainly to boys.
Kirby: Planet Robobot
Bomb returns as an ability in this game, unchanged from its appearance in Kirby: Triple Deluxe. It is obtainable by swallowing Poppy Bros. Jr., the missiles of Walker Waddle Dees with cannons, and many boss attacks involving explosives. It is also compatible with the Robobot ArmTemplate:Or.
Kirby Battle Royale
“ | That pointed hat gives you the Bomb ability! You should use Bomb Dunk if you want to shock your foe! | ” | — Knuckle Joe's comment in Kirby Battle Royale |
Bomb returns as one of the starter abilities for this multiplayer title. While its move-set has been simplified for the sake of balance, the essential functions of tossing bombs and planting bombs on foes remains intact.

Four alternate pieces of headgear exist for the Bomb ability. These are the "Foley Cap", the "Bomb Cap", the "Boom Cap", and the "Qbby Cap". The Qbby Cap can only be obtained by scanning the Qbby amiibo.
Kirby Star Allies
Bomb returns in this title along with Poppy Bros. Jr. who is the Friend for that ability. In addition to the standard repertoire of attacks from other recent titles, Bomb can be infused with any of the five Power Effects to create elemental variants. Unlike in Template:KSqS KMoA, a fiery bomb combination is possible here.

Kirby Fighters 2
Bomb appears as one of the selectable abilities in this game. Along with Sword and Staff, it is available for use right from the start. Its move-set is nearly identical to that of previous titles, but damage values have been adjusted. Notably, Kirby can now harm himself with his Self-Destruct technique.
For more precise competitive-oriented information on the Bomb ability in Kirby Fighters 2, see Mizuumi Wiki's page.

“ | He is now...Bomb Kirby! | ” | — Meta Knight in Kirby Takes the Cake |
Bomb is one of the recurring Copy Abilities in the anime series Kirby: Right Back at Ya!, first appearing in the season 2 finale episode Kirby Takes the Cake. When Kirby gains this ability, he is given a blue cap similar to the Sword cap, and resembling his in-game appearance prior to Kirby's Return to Dream Land. With the Bomb ability, Kirby is able to conjure bombs out of thin air and toss them at his opponents to attack. He can also return enemies' bombs to them.
In A Half-Baked Battle, King Dedede and Escargoon deliberately give Kirby this ability in order to free them all from the stomach of the monster Belly Buster.

When he copies the Bomb ability, Kirby gets to don a stylish hat just like Poppy Bros. Jr. The hat's appearance varies a little from game to game, but the ability itself is always pretty much the same: pull out a bomb, throw it, BOOM! Careful, though--if you hang on to the bomb for too long, you'll go BOOM yourself! |
