KatAMBlockin.png Blockin is a relatively uncommon enemy which disguises itself as a Star Block until disturbed. It debuted in Kirby & The Amazing Mirror, and has since only appeared in Kirby: Squeak Squad, where it served the exact same function. Blockin cannot be inhaled, but it can be defeated using any other means.

Appearance and behavior[edit]

When hidden, Blockin is indistinguishable from a regular Star Block. It usually hides in a formation with actual Star Blocks, though often strategically placed to get in Kirby's way. It will remain hidden until Kirby either attacks it or attempts to inhale it. If Blockin survives this initial encounter, it will reveal its face, as the star on its front-facing side is replaced with a set of dour eyes with a heavy brow, a grimacing mouth, and no nose.

Once revealed, Blockin will attempt to fly after Kirby in a similar manner to a Scarfy, as it continuously opens and closes its mouth. If it manages to bump into Kirby, it will deal him damage and then revert back to its Star Block form. If on the other hand it cannot hit Kirby during this time, Blockin will self-destruct after a few seconds. Blockin is incapable of harming Kirby while it is disguised, and can even be stood upon without issue.

One easy way to tell a Blockin apart from surrounding Star Blocks is the fact that it will reappear after it is 'broken' if Kirby wanders far enough away and then comes back, whereas normal Star Blocks will not.

  • In Kirby: Squeak Squad, when a Blockin is defeated without revealing their true form (usually by one-hit attacks), they leave an invisible solid collision tile for a few seconds, which is most likely a minor glitch.
  • If Kirby is positioned on the left or right side of Blockin before revealing the latter's true form, their sprites will x-flip to face at Kirby (to distinguish their symmetrical flip, there is a dot on the top left or right corners of him).
