This article is about the Big Waddle Dees from various sprite-based Kirby games starting with Kirby & The Amazing Mirror. For the large Waddle Dee in Kirby: Triple Deluxe & Kirby: Planet Robobot, see Grandy. This should also not be confused with the Colossal Waddle Dee from Team Kirby Clash Deluxe. For information about Waddle Dees in a general context, see Waddle Dee.

Big Waddle Dee is a Waddle Dee that is extra large. How much larger it is depends on the game it appears in, but it is at least large enough to be noticeable when compared to its normal counterpart. Apart from the size, there are typically no visual distinctions between this Waddle Dee and the normal ones. However, its increased size usually means that it has more Stamina and/or it takes longer to Inhale. It may also become a Blaster Bullet on its own when spat out. Despite its size, Big Waddle Dee is usually no more a threat to Kirby than the normal ones.

Game appearances

Kirby & The Amazing Mirror

File:Big Waddle Dee.png This was the first game in the series to showcase Big Waddle Dees (or any Waddle Dees of differing size for that matter). Big Waddle Dees possess higher stamina than standard Waddle Dees, and also take longer to inhale. Their bulkiness means that Kirby can spit out a Blaster Bullet from a single Big Waddle Dee inhaled.

Big Waddle Dee can be found in Rainbow Route, Moonlight Mansion, Mustard Mountain, Carrot Castle, and Candy Constellation.

Kirby: Squeak Squad

Big Waddle Dees return in this title, unchanged from their appearance in Kirby & The Amazing Mirror. They appear quite commonly in stages, usually alongside their smaller brethren.

While not explicitly referenced in Patch Plaza, a Big Waddle Dee appears at the end of the stage Castle Dedede. In this stage, it is guarding the throne room, presumably under orders from Yin-Yarn to do so. Big Waddle Dee cannot be unraveled using the Yarn Whip, but it can be defeated using the Weight or by tossing a Yarn Ball at it.

Yin-Yarn himself can conjure Big Waddle Dees during his boss fight. They will fall down from above and hurt Kirby or Prince Fluff should they land on them. Once these Big Waddle Dees land, they fall off-stage.

Kirby Mass Attack

Big Waddle Dees make an occasional appearance in Kirby Mass Attack, appearing in Dedede Resort along with their smaller cousins. Like other Waddle Dees in this game, Big Waddle Dees attack by throwing bombs, though theirs are naturally larger and more dangerous. Defeating a Big Waddle Dee confers 500 points onto the player.

Other appearances and similar

Later games in the series will often feature Waddle Dees of varying sizes. However, these appearances seldom change the actual characteristics of the Waddle Dee aside from how much physical space it takes up. There are a number of distinguished Waddle Dee entities that are larger than their standard counterparts, however:

Formations such as Puppet Dee and Armor Dee also resemble larger Waddle Dees, but are naturally distinct from actual large Waddle Dees.
