A Big Switch (otherwise known as a Secret Switch) is a very large (usually red) button which is typically found in hidden or hard-to-reach places. Unlike their smaller counterparts, a Big Switch - when pressed - usually unlocks areas in the main hub of its respective area, and then disappears. Kirby comes across them in several of his adventures, beginning with Kirby's Adventure, and pressing all of them is often required for 100% completion of the games they appear in, but not required to complete the game otherwise.
While a Big Switch may have an effect on objects in the stage that it appears in, its primary purpose is usually to unlock something outside of the stage. This is its biggest distinction from standard switches apart from its size. Another distinction is that, if applicable, Kirby can regain his full Health by pressing a Big Switch.

Kirby's Adventure / Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land[edit]
In Kirby's Adventure, Big Switches unlock doors in the main hubs of the areas they are found in. Kirby finds most of them in side-chambers, often blocked off by specific obstacles that can be bypassed using the powers of certain Copy Abilities. Once a Big Switch is pressed, it does not reappear.
Pressing every Big Switch is one of the requirements for 100% completion and to unlock the Extra Game. Big Switches can be pressed during Meta Knightmare, but do not unlock anything.
For a full synopsis on where each Big Switch is, and how to reach them, visit the various level pages for Kirby's Adventure/Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land, starting with Butter Building.
Kirby Super Star / Kirby Super Star Ultra[edit]
Two Secret Switches appear in this title, in the Dyna Blade main game. The first one can be found in Mallow Castle, and unlocks Trial Room 1. The second can be found in Candy Mountain, and unlocks Trial Room 2. Pressing both Big Switches is required to obtain the game's gold medal.
Kirby & The Amazing Mirror[edit]
Big Switches appear in most Hub rooms, where pressing them causes new doors to appear, linking the rooms back to the Central Circle. Pressing all of these switches will unlock the Copy Ability Room and is a requirement to 100% the game.
Kirby: Canvas Curse[edit]
In Kirby: Canvas Curse, Big Switches can be found in some stages. Here, they destroy Action Blocks that appear in other stages, opening up side areas in those stages that were not previously accessible.
The orange Big Switch in Rift Ruin.
The green Big Switch in Cold Course.
Kirby Mass Attack[edit]
There are a small number of stages which require Big Switches to be pressed in different stages to access. Normally the switches are found at the end of the stages they appear in after going through a Goal Door with a ? on it, but this is not always the case. In Volcano Valley - Stage 10 for instance, the Kirbys have to chase some Space Oohroos who stole the switch by building a spaceship to go after them. The switch, however, actually is not able to be jumped upon until the next stage of the island.
Kirby: Triple Deluxe[edit]
In Kirby: Triple Deluxe, Big Switches can be found in the rest areas in Dededetour! and bear a special design that includes King Dedede's emblem. Pressing one completely restores King Dedede's health and saves the game's progress up to that point.
Kirby and the Rainbow Curse[edit]
In Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, two big switches appear, each attached to the Bastron's self-destruct sequence in the stages Kirby Rocket's Big Blastoff and Back to the Battleship. Unlike in other games, the switches in these stages need to be pressed in order to progress through the stages they appear in.
Elline's depiction of the big switch in Bastron in her Secret Diary.
Kirby: Planet Robobot[edit]
In Kirby: Planet Robobot, Big Switches can be found in the rest areas in Meta Knightmare Returns and bear a special design that includes Meta Knight's emblem. Pressing one completely restores Meta Knight's stamina and saves the game's progress up to that point.
Kirby Star Allies[edit]
“ | Big switches are hidden in stages. Find them to open Extra Stages! | ” | — In-game tip from Kirby Star Allies |
Big Switches similar to their original design and function finally return in Kirby Star Allies, and can be found in a few stages. Pressing them is necessary to unlock extra stages and Dream Palaces, and is also necessary for 100% completion.
Unlike in previous titles, Big Switches can be pressed again, but doing so does not unlock more extra stages. Instead, when pressed, the team is healed and some items (usually Picture Pieces and Point Stars) are dispensed. There are specific Big Switches in Guest Star ???? Star Allies Go! that also yield a Dream Rod when pressed.
