Overview
Coo the owl appears next to Kirby on a rocky cliff, where he helps Kirby pluck a fruit from a hanging branch, but accidentally makes him collide with the side of the cliff where it is hanging, causing him to lose the fruit and angrily yell at Coo.
Consisting of three regular stages and a fourth for the boss, Big Forest is a fairly short level. Like with Grass Land, Big Forest does not feature much in the way of bottomless pits or other environmental hazards. However, it does offer much greater variation in topography, with many isolated platforms, as well as a few fully vertical areas. To tackle this, Coo appears shortly into the level, and his ability to fly quickly makes Big Forest a breeze to travel through.

Each stage is unlocked in succession after clearing the previous one. Defeating Nruff and Nelly is necessary to move on to Ripple Field. For more information about a particular stage, click on the link to the stage's page in the table.
Room 1 - Kirby begins the stage at the far left end of a horizontally scrolling section. This part of the stage is mostly a plain stretch of land, which only a few obstacles, and populated mostly by Waddle Dees, many of which run into view from the left side of the screen, and Cappys. At the rightmost end of this area, Kirby finds a door, which leads to a small room in which a Scarfy is holding Coo captive; defeating it releases the Animal Friend from its bag.

Room 2 - The following section scrolls into every direction and is a little more uneven than the first part, containing hills as well as two bottomless pits near the beginning. Bronto Burts are flying in the sky here, which pose a threat to Kirby should he opt to fly over the region. At the far right end, the goal door is located below a log, blocked by three Star Blocks. If Kirby does not proceed to enter the goal right away, he can additionally find a Load Kibble atop a Star Block further above and to the right of it, which can be inhaled for the Cutter ability.

Stage 2
Room 1 - At the beginning of this stage, Kirby finds himself in the treetops, the leafy foreground sections of which serve as platforms. If he goes left and down from here, he can locate a door leading to the level's Rainbow Drop room. The drop can be acquired if Kirby uses the Needle ability on the two blocks initially keeping him from reaching it. To progress to the next section, Kirby must travel to the right. The area scrolls into all directions and includes several platforms above the ground as well as an alternate path at the bottom. To reach the door to the next part of the stage, however, he has to take the upper path near the right end of the section, avoiding Gordos that move vertically in front of the trees.
Room 2 - The subsequent area scrolls only to the sides and is mostly plain, its obstacles mainly consisting of Star Blocks. Near the beginning of it, a Health Drink can be found resting on top of such a block between two stationary Gordos; to acquire it, the block has to be inhaled. At the end of the region, a horizontally moving Gordo trapped between Star Blocks is guarding the goal door; by inhaling one of the blocks, Kirby can cause it to abandon its duty and move away from the door.

Room 1 - Kirby starts out at the left end of a mostly plain, horizontal section filled mostly with Bouncy Tys and Waddle Dees. Not far from the end of the area, he comes across a bridge made of three Star Blocks above a bottomless pit; when he passes over it, three jumping Kabus materialize in the air above him. A bit further right, a door is located atop a tall tree stump.

Room 2 - Entering the door takes Kirby to the bottom of a vertically scrolling part. To progress here, he needs to make use of leafy platforms attached to three tree trunks to reach the top, avoiding Waddle Dees with Floaty the Drifters that are parachuting from above. Not far above the ground, two Bouncy Tys also fall down between the trees. At the top, Kirby finds an Energy Drink that likewise drops down from above, as well as a door leading to a Mid-Boss fight with Jumpershoot, who is guarding Coo.

Room 3 - The third part of this stage is another vertical section, but Kirby starts out at the top. The only adversaries in this part are Spikeys, which move across various rectangular or slanted chunks of solid ground. Kirby must progress downwards through the openings between the ground, eventually reaching a door protected by two Spikeys at the very bottom, which leads to the final section.

Room 4 - This region scrolls into every direction, and its ground is mostly formed like a staircase, which is swarming with enemies. Bronto Burts soar through the sky above it, hampering Kirby if he chooses to fly. At the top of the stairs, the goal door awaits.

Behind the boss door, Nruff and several Nellys lurk in a small area consisting of flat soil at the bottom and two long, permeable ledges above it. Both the large and the multiple smaller porcupines continuously spawn from the sides of the screen, walking and jumping across the solid ground and ledges. To beat this boss, Kirby has to attack Nruff with a Copy Ability or by inhaling the Nellys and spitting them at it. Emerging victorious enables him to continue to the next level, Ripple Field.

— Kirby's Dream Land 2 manual

Big Forest is the second level in Kirby's Dream Land 2 and belongs to the Rainbow Islands. As the name implies, the level is set inside a large woodland area, with a generally green hue. It is notable for being the first level in the game to feature Coo the owl. The level's bosses are Nruff and Nelly. This level follows Grass Land and is followed by Ripple Field.

Cutscene[edit]

Coo appears next to Kirby on a rocky cliff, where he helps Kirby pluck a fruit from a hanging branch, but accidentally makes him collide with the side of the cliff where it is hanging, causing him to lose the fruit and angrily yell at Coo.

Overview[edit]

Consisting of three regular stages and a fourth for the boss, Big Forest is a fairly short level. Like with Grass Land, Big Forest does not feature much in the way of bottomless pits or other environmental hazards. However, it does offer much greater variation in topography, with many isolated platforms, as well as a few fully vertical areas. To tackle this, Coo appears shortly into the level, and his ability to fly quickly makes Big Forest a breeze to travel through.

The Rainbow Drop does not appear directly on Kirby's path this time, instead being tucked away in a side-door near the start of Stage 2.

Stages[edit]

Each stage is unlocked in succession after clearing the previous one. Defeating Nruff and Nelly is necessary to move on to Ripple Field. For more information about a particular stage, click on the link to the stage's page in the table.
