Another Dimension is the name given to a strange eerie alternate dimension featured many times in the Kirby series. It first appeared concretely in Kirby's Return to Dream Land, though it can be argued to have been present to some extent in earlier titles. It is the home of the Sphere Doomers, as well as several very powerful parallel versions of bosses from Kirby's native dimension. Whenever Kirby and his friends are tasked to enter this dimension, it is usually in order to stop some powerful villains from wreaking havoc in Kirby's home dimension.

Description

File:Another Dimension Empty.jpg
An empty portion of Another Dimension, as seen in Kirby's Return to Dream Land.

Another Dimension is characterized by large empty spaces filled with strange swirling patterns and energy. It can be seen as closely linked to Kirby's native dimension in that several images and impressions of places from said dimension will appear in the background of Another Dimension. Where there is solid ground, it is usually depicted as glowing yellow blocky formations which often shift and can easily crush when doing so. Large spiky star-shaped hazards also float freely in this area, making it generally hostile to navigate through. When visiting an area in Another Dimension resembling one from the main dimension, it is often depicted in a monochrome fashion, though this is temporarily undone whenever a Sphere Doomer is defeated.

Kirby and other characters are capable of opening rifts to Another Dimension from their home dimension using sufficiently powerful attacks or advanced ancient technology. It is implied that such visits can only last a short while, as often, a wall of energy will push in toward Kirby and his allies which will crush them if they take too long.

Appearances

Kirby's Return to Dream Land

Main article: Level 8: Another Dimension

Kirby and allies first enter Another Dimension in this game, first to recover the Lor Starcutter's lost Energy Spheres, then to battle Magolor after he betrayed them. When in Another Dimension proper, Kirby and allies spend most of their time flying on Landia's back and shooting down Doomers in pursuit of Magolor and his ship. The final boss encounter takes place in an eerie glowing area with Popstar visible from a portal in the background. Once Magolor is defeated, the area starts to collapse, and Landia comes in to rescue Kirby and allies by flying them through the portal before it closes.

In The True Arena, Galacta Knight is battled in a place resembling this dimension as well.

Kirby's Dream Collection

In the New Challenge Stages mode, several of the final courses take place in an area which greatly resembles Another Dimension.

Kirby: Triple Deluxe

In the Kirby Fighters Sub-Game, the last fight against Shadow Kirby takes place in this dimension. This can be thought of as the first encounter with a parallel boss hailing from this dimension, though its canonicity is questionable.

Kirby: Planet Robobot

During the battle with Galacta Knight, he will occasionally open a rift to Another Dimension as an attack.

Team Kirby Clash Deluxe

The last set of bosses all hail from what is presumed to be Another Dimension, with the Decisive Battlefield also being set there.

Kirby Star Allies

The final major update to Kirby Star Allies adds a new mode to the game, which takes place in Another Dimension. It is unclear at this time precisely how it will operate, but what has been shown implies that Kirby enters the portal from The Divine Terminus and travels through several areas, swapping with Dream Friends in order to clear the way forward before battling several more parallel bosses.

Trivia

  • It has been theorized that Galacta Knight was banished to this dimension, and routinely needs to be re-sealed in there whenever he is pulled out again.
  • The Nebula Belt track from Kirby Air Ride may be located in this realm, and as such may be a precursor to it.
