amiibo
amiibo are a series of collectible figurines based on characters from Nintendo franchises, which also tout functionality with various video games. Scanning in various figures will unlock bonuses in these games, which range from purely cosmetic changes to new content in the form of in-game items, characters and locations.
The first amiibo figurines that went out for sale were the ones related to Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U. Among them were figurines of Kirby, King Dedede, and Meta Knight, as all three were fighters in that game. Later, concurrent with the release of Kirby: Planet Robobot, came a set of official Kirby series amiibo, including Kirby, Meta Knight, King Dedede, and Waddle Dee.
Nintendo consoles and handhelds compatible with amiibo
- Wii U
- Nintendo 3DS (special adapter required for older models)
- Nintendo Switch
Kirby Games compatible with amiibo
Kirby and the Rainbow Curse
The first game in the series compatible with amiibo was Kirby and the Rainbow Curse on Wii U. It is compatible with the Kirby series amiibo (including their Super Smash Bros. series amiibo counterparts), which could be scanned in to give Kirby a bonus during the playthrough of a level. The bonus obtained depended on the figure used, and could only be used a certain number of times per day.
Kirby: Planet Robobot
Kirby: Planet Robobot for 3DS is the second game compatible with amiibo. Here, the figures give Kirby a Copy Ability based on what type it is, as well as some Food (and a Sticker if the amiibo is a Kirby series one).
If playing Meta Knightmare Returns, Meta Knight only gains food.
If playing The Arena or The True Arena, Kirby only gains food and the Copy Ability, which is the only way to obtain the Smash Bros. and U.F.O. abilities in these modes.
Unlike in Rainbow Curse, amiibo outside the Kirby series are also compatible.

Team Kirby Clash Deluxe
In Team Kirby Clash Deluxe, scanning an amiibo will give the leader of Team Kirby various goodies, including Gem Apples and Fragments. This can be done by visiting the Kirby statue to the left of Magolor's Shoppe in the main plaza.
Kirby's Blowout Blast
In Kirby's Blowout Blast, there is a special collection room where Kirby can obtain large statues of himself and his friends/rivals when the unknown reader scans a Kirby series amiibo (including their Super Smash Bros. series amiibo counterparts). This will also add more musical options to the hub, appropriate to the character scanned in.
Kirby: Battle Royale
In Kirby: Battle Royale, amiibo can be scanned in to unlock various Headgear for certain Copy Abilities or characters. These costumes are purely cosmetic, and not required for 100% Completion of the game:
- Kirby's amiibo unlocks the Ultra Sword Hat for Sword Kirby.
- King Dedede's amiibo unlocks the Masked Dedede Mask for King Dedede.
- Meta Knight's amiibo unlocks the Galacta Knight Mask for Meta Knight.
- Waddle Dee's amiibo unlocks the Café Cap for Waddle Dee.
- Qbby's amiibo unlocks the Qbby Cap for Bomb Kirby.
(Super Smash Bros. series amiibo counterparts of Kirby, King Dedede and Meta Knight are also compatible.)
Kirby Star Allies
While inside a stage, an amiibo can be scanned in to give Kirby some items. Scanning in a Kirby series amiibo (or the Qbby amiibo) will give Kirby two Picture Pieces, a Maxim Tomato, and two Point Stars. Scanning in any other amiibo will give Kirby one Picture Piece, a cherry, and two Point Stars. This can be done at any point in the stage, even during Boss fights.
In The Ultimate Choice, amiibo can be used up to 7 times in a row during a run, but this marks the results as using amiibo.
