Air Drop is an attack associated primarily with the Ninja ability. It is performable in every Kirby series game that features Ninja as an ability, and can also be used by enemy Bio Spark and Moonja when they grab Kirby or another playable character. Smash Bros. Kirby can also use Air Drop in Kirby: Planet Robobot.

Overview

When using Air Drop, the character using the technique grabs their opponent, then rockets either off-screen or very high into the air before coming back down for a landing, on which the opponent is damaged and launched. Naturally, this technique cannot be used on particularly large enemies, such as Bosses and Mid-Bosses.

Super Smash Bros. series

In the Super Smash Bros. games, Kirby and Meta Knight can use this technique as their upward-throw after grabbing an opponent (Kirby's forward throw in the original Super Smash Bros.). This move varies in launch power between titles, but it is often the strongest throw in either character's arsenal in terms of damage and knockback. Unlike in the Kirby series, this move will transport both user and opponent to whichever Fall-through Platform may be above them.

Trivia

  • As its Japanese name suggests, Air Drop is inspried by 飯綱いづなとし (Izuna Drop): a fictional ninjutsu attack from the manga Kamui Gaiden, which is well known as the signature move of the protagonist Kamui. This attack has since become a common homage in Japanese works, Ninja Kirby being one of them.
  • The Beetle ability's Throw Drop resembles Air Drop.
