What is the first sentence supposed to mean? Turtwig A (talk | contribs) 14:24, 17 April 2010 (UTC)

It loosely translates to "Don't edit while sleep-walking". Anyway, I removed that abomination. - Edofenrir( talk) 20:02, 18 April 2010 (UTC)

Bouncy's pronouns[edit]

I personally think that Bouncy should be referred to as a girl. Not only she has appeared in a Valentine's Day illustration where a group of only female characters are present, not only her Bouncy Sis counterpart is referred to as a "she", but Bouncy's design is so blatantly feminine that it feels almost stupid to not refer to Bouncy as a girl. What do official sources (e.g. instruction booklets) refer to Bouncy as, if ever in singular number? –Wiz (talk · edits) 09:47, 22 March 2023 (UTC)

There recently was a proposal to solidify genders for non generic characters. Maybe something like that could help with the generic enemies too.

As Vipz said, official sources are currently our best bet. Infinite Possibilities (talk) 09:52, 22 March 2023 (UTC)

If we want to apply that proposal's logic here, it would require a new proposal since that targeted entities specifically and not species. Also, I don't think that would help here since as far as I know there's no official source to go off of in the first place. Ultimately, I feel like this is probably going to come down to whether or not that Valentine's Day thing is considered enough evidence to say Bouncy is female, which I feel like it wouldn't be. (Also, since Bouncy is a species, it's entirely possible that they have both male and female variants). ---PinkYoshiFan 15:37, 22 March 2023 (UTC)
Well that hasn't stopped Lovely from being referred to as a "she" even though it's a species. And like I said, I'm pretty sure you can also make this argument for the Bouncy Sis variant.AnnieCat07 (talk) 17:40, 22 March 2023 (UTC)
Bouncy Sis is referred to as "she" because the only official flavor text used to describe her (Figurine from KatRC) uses she/her, so there's no conflicting information. For Bouncy proper, we have no text whatsoever, and since we default to "it" for non-individual subjects, that's what we've defaulted to here. Lovely has a case of being referred to as she/her in the anime, and unfortunately, Bouncy never showed up in the anime. Now, I should state that the anime and other external media cannot be used to override in-game terminology, but it can be used as a clue when other info is absent. It may be worth trawling through other media, such as the manga series that we've yet to start covering here on WiKirby, and using other context clues. I think I would generally agree that the valentines image in question is a compelling clue, since Bouncy is with most of the other definitively female characters here, and Kirby is not "part" of the group. That said, there does seem to be a not-insignificant number of people who disagree, so maybe another piece of evidence would be useful here. --Samwell (talk) 18:30, 22 March 2023 (UTC)
Also, just to double-check, I went and found the Japanese KatRC figurine description. It reads as follows:
いつも飛びはねているのは、ジヤンプしたときに見える景色が好きだから。はずむ心をおさえきれずに、今日も元気に飛びはねる。
There don't appear to be any specific pronoun clues here either. --Samwell (talk) 18:48, 22 March 2023 (UTC)
Pronouns for generic enemies, etc. are something I've been thinking about for a while and have discussed on the Discord, particularly since there are a lot of IP users who seem to focus specifically on them. As another example, Keke is almost certainly intended to be a girl, but has gone through a few different sets of pronouns on her page. I think it's a similar case with Bouncy. The proposal I'd submit would basically just be "if we don't have a consistent official set of pronouns, we should settle on what a majority of users think 'feels' right." StarPunch (talk) 20:16, 22 March 2023 (UTC)
For Bouncy specifically, I can take a closer look at how the novels use pronouns to talk about them if that helps. The two most recent one have them as a character, and I believe the Samurai Kirby one made them more traditionally "feminine" but I cannot remember the pronouns (if any) from the top of my head right now. - Gigi (talkedits) 20:25, 22 March 2023 (UTC)

Now that the proposal has passed, would there be any objections to using feminine pronouns for Bouncy? ---PinkYoshiFan 00:11, 10 April 2023 (UTC)
