— Return to Dream Land quote

Water is a Copy Ability which debuted in Kirby's Return to Dream Land that can be obtained by swallowing water-related enemies. Water Kirby can surf on a form of water he creates, thus being able to easily traverse through lava. He can also neutralize lava blocks (though not lava itself) using the ability, making it a requirement to access some areas and Energy Spheres. Kirby can also spit water downwards and hover, destroying enemies along the way, as well as shoot water upwards. In addition, Water Kirby has a more powerful underwater attack, blowing out three water pulses rather than one.

Water Moveset for Kirby's Return to Dream Land
Skill Button Execution Description
Wave Attack
1
Kirby spits a blob of water that travels along the ground and damages the first object it hits.
Surf
Dash
While dashing, Water Kirby has bad acceleration, but a slightly higher top speed and the ability to dash over water and across lava. Striking an enemy deals minor damage and causes Kirby to rebound backwards.
Wave Surf
Dash + 1
Creates a large wave, giving Kirby a boost of speed and plowing over anything in the way. Like Surf, travels overtop of water and lava.
Geyser
Up + 1
Kirby fires a blast of water straight up. Good vertical range (can hit any flying boss in their neutral position) but no horizontal range whatsoever.
Fountain Hover
Down + 1 in midair
Kirby blows a thin jet of water downwards, litfing himself into the air a constant distance off the ground. The move continues while the button is held. Kirby can move sideways during the move and also adjust his elevation by holding Up or Down.
Water Crown
Down + 1
A small blast of water at Kirby's feet.
Rainbow Rain
Hold Down then Up + 1
Kirby spreads his arms and produces a round blast of water that forms a rainbow above him. The move hits twice - once for the water blast and again for the rainbow itself.
Enhanced Water Gun
1 underwater
Kirby fires three water pulses with about double the range of his regular Water Gun.

Trivia

  • The Water ability actually first appeared in Kirby: Right Back at Ya!. In this appearance Kirby is seen translucent blue and can perform the Geyser attack. It was one of the anime-exclusive abilities along with Baton, Iron, Top, and Kabuki until it reappeared in Kirby's Return to Dream Land.
