Name

Kirby Super Star Ultra simply calls this thing "Waddle Dee". Is the "(Blue) Bandanna Waddle Dee" name from some Kirby's Return to Dream Land-related source, or is it a fan nickname? As we prefer official names wherever available, if the latter is the case, it should possibly be moved to "Waddle Dee (character)" or something, though that may be confusing as there is a Waddle Dee character in Kirby 64 which is, from all we know, not this one. :\ --Vellidragon 17:50, 8 September 2011 (CDT)

To distinguish this from normal Waddle Dees and since there are many links that lead to "Blue Bandanna Waddle Dee", I named the page Blue Bandanna Waddle Dee. It could be moved to Waddle Dee (character) if it seems more appropriate, and put a Kirby 64 section with a {{theory}} above it. I thought about adding a section to Waddle Dee's page just about this character, but since he appears in KRtDL I thought he needed his own page.--Triple D is awesome 20:32, 9 September 2011 (CDT)
We generally only use conjectural names if there is no official one, and this character is officially known as Waddle Dee; and yeah, as a playable character, it should have its own page, mainly as Waddle Dee is really about the species rather than an individual. Which leads to more confusion here, as the Kirby 64 one is also an individual named Waddle Dee, though in no way indicated to be the same individual. I honestly have no idea how to handle the Waddle Dee characters; I've been thinking about this all night and I can't come up with anything good. Naming this one "Waddle Dee (Kirby's Return to Dream Land)" may be misleading as well as it appears in Kirby Super Star Ultra. "Waddle Dee (playable character)" would likewise be, as it's not playable in its first appearance.
As for theories in articles, though, I'm against those, myself. I know we have a theory template and something on theories in the quality standards, but that's because all the basic stuff was originally copied over from Zelda Wiki and some of it hasn't ever been adjusted so far (I've been working on that a bit, but there's still so much that's inaccurate :\). I don't believe WiKirby actually has theories anywhere as of now, and I think we should continue to restrict information in articles to what is obvious or can be cited for the sake of keeping things semi-professional and encyclopaedic, not to mention that I can think of dozens of problems likely to result from allowing theories.--Vellidragon 21:05, 9 September 2011 (CDT)
So we have a few options...Waddle Dee (Character), Blue Bandanna Waddle Dee, Waddle Dee (playable), Waddle Dee (Bandanna), etc. etc. Perhaps we could have a page for Waddle Dee (Kirby 64) and one for Waddle Dee (character)...ugh. There isn't a good way of doing this I can find. I'll think about it once I get some sleep. :D --Triple D is awesome 22:04, 9 September 2011 (CDT)

Just directing attention towards this again as it's still ridiculous to have a conjectural name for a character who has an official name and nothing ever came of this, apparently. The issue remains that there are at least two characters named Waddle Dee; one without a bandanna in Kirby 64, another without a bandanna that may be the same as the first in Canvas Curse and this one, which has no confirmed connection to the other(s). Of the suggestions above, "Waddle Dee (character)" wouldn't disambiguate this from the other character(s), "Waddle Dee (playable)" is odd as it wasn't playable before Return and the Waddle Dee in Canvas Curse is also playable and "Waddle Dee (bandanna)" implies that it's a bandanna named Waddle Dee :\ I would really like to get this out of the way soon, but am still stumped on a proper disambiguation... "Waddle Dee (character with bandanna)" is the only thing I can think of, but that sounds a bit strange; then again, it may be the only title that's actually accurate unless something better gets brought up :/ --Vellidragon 18:30, 5 January 2012 (CST)

I'm not sure if "Waddle Dee" is actually an official name, it may actually have no official name, and Nintendo may be putting "Waddle Dee" as a place holder for a name, because that's what the bandannaed Waddle Dee is--a Waddle Dee (I hope you get what I mean there... but that can't be confirmed). In this case, technically Waddle Dee (character with bandanna) would be the correct name for consistency purposes if "Waddle Dee" is actually the official name, but it seems really awkward, but I guess it's the only option we have, unless we make an exception for this character (which I think would cause problems in the future)... Well, it's not so much about what his name in the canon may be; whether he's actually a Waddle Dee named Waddle Dee is certainly debatable, but irrelevant to the wiki at this time. The point is that he's officially referred to as Waddle Dee, and nothing else, and we're trying to use official terminology wherever possible. Whether that is a placeholder term or the character's "actual" name doesn't matter much, it's what HAL/Nintendo calls the character so we should go with it rather than use a fan nickname. I agree that "Waddle Dee (character with bandanna)" is awkward, but we don't have much of a choice here if we wish to use the official terminology and properly disambiguate the article :\ --Vellidragon 16:16, 9 January 2012 (CST)
I guess that's the best course of action then (especially how seeing how many of Wikipedia's articles long parentheticals, I do not think it is that awkward anymore). T.c.w7468 21:21, 9 January 2012 (CST)
