Stone is an ability that debuted in Kirby's Adventure and is primarily obtained by absorbing a stone type enemy or even rocks from a boss. It allows Kirby to perform one of several stone-based attacks, which vary from game to game, but usually involve Kirby's transforming either into a stone version of himself or a random statue or other heavy object. Kirby can also obtain the Stone ability through Copy Pedestals or Copy Essence Deluxes.

Artwork from Kirby Super Star.

In Kirby Super Star and Kirby Super Star Ultra, Stone can be obtained from Rockys and the boulders appearing during the battle against Fatty Whale and Wham Bam Rock. Kirby's visual appearance changes by turning brown and wearing a helmet with a tail on top.

Upon using the ability, Kirby randomly turns into one of a wide variety of objects. In the original Kirby Super Star, Kirby can turn into a golden Mario statue, a statue of Samus Aran, a star block, a bronze Kirby statue, a pink rock, an 8 ton weight or a strong man statue; its remake adds a mountain, an iron fist, statues of Rick, Kine and Coo, a Thudd and more. While transformed, Kirby is completely invincible, but cannot move; pressing the B button while in stone form returns Kirby to his usual self.

With the stone ability equipped, Kirby can create a Rocky as a helper, which possesses the same skills as Stone Kirby does.

Kirby's Return to Dream Land

After a relatively long absence, Stone returns in Kirby's Return to Dream Land, where it can be obtained from Rocky and the Mid-Boss Moundo and has gained new moves that allow for it to be used in a more varied manner. Apart from the traditional power to turn to stone and slide down hills, Kirby may now transform into a bigger-than-normal statue and slam onto the ground with great force, as well as use a powerful low-range attack that knocks enemies into the air. The latter is also the first Stone move in the history of the series that does not transform Kirby's entire body.

Possible transformations resulting from using Stone in this game include a rock, a brick with a star on it, a Kirby statue, an 8 ton weight, two different human-shaped statues, a sculpture of Kirby's three original Animal Friends, a fist, a volcano, Marx on his circus ball and Kirby Super Star Ultra's design of Wham Bam Rock. Some lesser known transformations include the Dragoon from Kirby's Air Ride, a gold statue of the power-ups Star Rod, Triple Star, and the Power Paintbrush, a gold statue of the Kirby from Kirby & the Amazing Mirror and a gold statue of Meta Knight and Galacta Knight.

Move Button Execution Description
Stone Change (1) Kirby transforms into a random, invincible statue that is stationary, but keeps Kirby's momentum and may slide down slopes. Ending this effect causes rock shards to fly away, which can harm enemies.
Stone Smash (1) in air Kirby transforms into a random statue and falls straight down, pounding stakes into the ground and dealing damage to enemies he collides with.
Heavy Smash Down + (1) in air Kirby transforms into a larger statue and pauses in the air for a bit before slamming straight down with greater force. Using this directly above an enemy causes Kirby to deal additional damage while transforming.
Stone Uppercut Up + (1) Kirby performs an uppercut directly in front of him with a fist made of stone, dealing damage and catapulting enemies into the air.
