Poppy Bros Sr.,[1] also spelt Poppy Bros. Sr., is a Mid-Boss that appears in several games of the Kirby series, debuting in the first Template:Installment, Kirby's Dream Land. It resembles the Poppy Bro Jr. enemy, but is bigger. It also has slightly longer and more hooked feet than its smaller counterpart and possesses a flat white shirt collar, as well as ligaments connecting its feet.

Game Appearances

In Poppy Bros Sr.'s first appearance in Kirby's Dream Land, it jumps around mainly in one place, periodically throwing singular bombs at Kirby. On rare instances, it gradually increases the range of its jumps until it reaches the other side of the screen, but always returns to its initial position afterwards. To defeat him, Kirby has to inhale its bombs and spit them back at him three times. In the Extra Game, Poppy Bros Sr. is able to throw three bombs at a faster rate than normal, and execute a dashing attack.

Poppy Bros Sr. returns in Kirby's Adventure and its remake, Nightmare in Dream Land. Here, it acts mainly the same as it did in its first appearance. However, it is much more likely to perform larger jumps, and if it manages to jump over Kirby, it will continue to attack him from the opposite side. To defeat him, Kirby has to spit its bombs back at him or use a Copy Ability. In addition, Poppy Bros Sr.'s own bombs may hurt him if they happen to explode near him. Inhaling and swallowing one after its defeat grants Kirby the Crash Copy Ability.

Although it is encountered many times throughout the game, Kirby sometimes having to fight two of them at once, Poppy Bros Sr. is one of the only three Mid-Bosses in the game to not be fought in any of the Arenas, likely due to yielding a limited use ability.

Kirby Super Star/Kirby Super Star Ultra

The Mid-Boss's abilities become more advanced in Kirby Super Star and its remake; instead of always throwing one bomb, it is also able to throw three bombs at Kirby at once and may attempt to ram into him like in Kirby's Dream Land's extra game, in addition to being able to jump over him like in its Kirby's Adventure apppearance. Also like in Kirby's Adventure, Poppy Bros Sr. is vulnerable to its own bombs. In these games, it yields the Bomb ability when swallowed.

Trivia

  • Grand Wheelie, another Mid-Boss in the series, is an enlarged version of the Wheelie enemy in the same manner that Poppy Bros Sr. resembles a larger Poppy Bro Jr. The Kirby's Dream Land 3 Mid-Boss Boboo also shares this trait, being an enlarged Bobo enemy.
  • In Kirby's Dream Land, Poppy Bros Sr. is the only one of the game's Mid-Bosses to have no apparent relation to the boss of the stage it is fought in (Whispy Woods).

  1. Kirby Super Star Ultra displays this spelling of the name on the bottom screen during fights against the Mid-Boss. The plural is used even when only one is fought; no official singular has been established.
