Burning, also known as Burn or Fireball, is an ability obtained by absorbing a certain fire type enemy, and it gives Kirby the ability to charge towards his enemies while being engulfed in flames. The ability is based on moving through enemies to deal damage, and therefore works different from Fire, which is more of a stationary attack. This is one of Kirby's oldest Copy Abilities, making its debut in Kirby's Adventure. When having the Burning ability, Kirby wears a golden crown with a small red flame emblem attached to it. Also, while moving around, his hands are ablaze.
Game Appearances
Kirby's Adventure/Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land
Burning first appears in Kirby's Adventure, where it is called Fireball. Absorbing a Flamer allows Kirby to use this ability.
Kirby's Dream Land 3
Burning reappears in Kirby's Dream Land 3 as the sole fire-based ability in the game. It can be obtained by inhaling fire enemies enemies like Bobo, Magoo, or Boboo. Just like in Kirby's Dream Land 2, using this ability in its basic form causes Kirby (or Gooey) to briefly launch himself forward in form of a fire ball.
Combinations
As in the Kirby's Dream Land 2, the Burning ability can be combined with any of Kirby's Animal Friends, both old and new, to create a new power. The following combinations are possible:
Friend | Appearance | Description |
---|---|---|
Chuchu | File:KDL3 A BurningChuchu.png | Kirby exhales a short-ranged burner flame that damages enemies nearby. If the B Button is pressed during the attack, Kirby will point the flame upwards and use Chuchu as a hot air balloon. |
Coo | File:KDL3 A BurningCoo.png | Coo transforms into a burning fire ball and dives down to the ground in a diagonal line. |
Kine | File:KDL3 A BurningKine.png | Kine exhales a powerful fire blast that travels straight across the screen. |
Nago | File:KDL3 A BurningNago.png | Nago makes Kirby spit out a towering flame that creeps along the ground until it burns out. |
Pitch | File:KDL3 A BurningPitch.png | Pitch changes into a fire ball and travels along the screen while leaving Kirby behind. Kirby has to wait for him to come back until the attack can be used again. |
Rick | File:KDL3 A BurningRick.png | Rick uses a fire breath against enemies. This looks very similar to the Fire ability. |
Kirby Super Star/Kirby Super Star Ultra
While not appearing directly in Kirby Super Star and its remake, the move pattern of Burning is integrated in the games' regular Fire ability. Techniques that have the characteristics of Burning are Burn, Fireball Spin, and Fireball Roll.
Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards
In Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, the Burn ability allows Kirby to perform a flame dash which charges through enemies. If Kirby obtains two Burn power ups, the dash will become much stronger and will last longer.
Kirby & the Amazing Mirror
Acting the same as it did in Nightmare in Dream Land, Burning reappears in Kirby & the Amazing Mirror alongside Fire. Unlike most abilities in that game, Burning does not reappear in Kirby: Squeak Squad, but is instead integrated with Fire like in Kirby Super Star.
Kirby: Canvas Curse
In Canvas Curse, Kirby can obtain Burning by defeating a Flamer. Burning ability functions very much like in the previous games; however, the player must touch Kirby in order to activate it. Instead of having hat, as with all other abilities, Kirby has two red rings orbiting him. When activated, the Burning ability destroys any Template:Gray blocks and blocks marked with a fire sign.
Though not a gameplay effect, when the player draws the picture quickly in Paint Panic, Kirby flies forward as if he activated Burning.
