Originally designed for pleasure cruises, this flying monstrosity is now a giant battleship. There were plans to build a second one, but do you have any idea how much clay costs nowadays? More than you'd think.
— Figurine description of Bastron from Kirby and the Rainbow Curse

Bastron is a mid-boss and stage-hazard in Kirby and the Rainbow Curse. It is a giant flying purple battleship with the general profile of a rubber ducky, but with a large snout in place of a beak. Bastron was built by Claycia with the original intent being to use it for pleasure cruises, but after she was taken over by Dark Crafter, it was repurposed into a combat vessel and outfitted with several cannons.

Function[edit]

Bastron appears in a handful of stages in Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, first trying to attack Kirby from a distance, and then being the main focus of some stages when Kirby infiltrates it with the Kirby Rocket. It first shoots cannonballs at Kirby and Waddle Dee from afar, with reticles at the targeted areas appearing not long before it fires. Once the cannonballs hit the reticles, the area is lit ablaze for a few seconds. These shots are also capable of breaking metal blocks, which inadvertently allows Kirby to gather certain otherwise inaccessible goodies if he lures the reticle in the right way. Interestingly, Bastron will also fire at Cottas and other incidental creatures on the stage.

Bastron is infiltrated in the stages Kirby Rocket's Big Blastoff and Back to the Battleship. In these stages, Kirby has to fly through the cramped metal hallways of the ship while dealing with its defenders. Once he reaches the Big Switch in the heart of the Bastron, he can press it to activate the self-destruct sequence and then escape.
